History
St. Vlas was first built by the Thracian tribe Larisi in II c.b.c. By this time it was named after the tribe – Larisa. Later in XIV c.a.c. it was named St. Vlasii – a healer and protector of the tradesmen and the cattlemen. Saint Vlasii is honored saint by both the Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches.
During the Ottoman rule XIV – XIX c.a.c. the village was registered in the administrative documents as ´Monastery´ or ´Kiuchuk Monastery´ – because of the five monasteries located near the village. Unfortunately, none if these monasteries have been preserved to the present time. The village received its name of St. Vlas back after the Bulgarian Unification in 1886.
